Forest Play (Ages 3-5)

Nature Time for Little Ones

Summer Session 2021: July 6th to August 10th  (6 weeks)

Flying Squirrels Forest Play is a nature play program for young children aged 3-5 years.  We are pleased to offer this program in partnership with the Town of Kentville at the dynamic Kentville Gorge.

Why Nature Play?

Outdoor play in nature is an essential part of children’s healthy development supporting their physical, emotional and mental well-being. Play is where young children learn such diverse skills and traits as physical literacy, communication, empathy, sharing, spatial awareness, problem solving, resilience and persistence. And the natural world is where humans have been playing for thousands of years.

As nature play facilitators, we can attest to the idea of an innate nature play instinct. Most children settle into exploratory play in nature within a few hours, even if they have never done it before. And from there, they grow in a variety of capacities in leaps and bounds over the course of only a few weeks. Nature play is simple, and yet vital to the development of healthy people, a healthy society and a healthy planet.
