Forest Play Program

Nature Sessions for Pre-Schoolers

We are very excited to be teaming up with the Town of Kentville to offer an outdoor recreation program for children aged 3-4 years in the beautiful Kentville Gorge.

Flying Squirrels Forest Play is a nature play program for pre-school aged children. This is a new program in Kentville but builds on previous nature play programs run by our Flying Squirrel Adventures facilitators.

Why Nature Play?

Outdoor play in nature is an essential part of children’s healthy development supporting their physical, emotional and mental well-being. Play is where young children learn such diverse skills and traits as physical literacy, communication, empathy, sharing, spatial awareness, problem solving, resilience and persistence. And the natural world is where humans have been playing for thousands of years.

As nature play facilitators, we can attest to the idea of an innate nature play instinct. Most children settle into exploratory play in nature within a few hours, even if they have never done it before. And from there, they grow in a variety of capacities in leaps and bounds over the course of only a few weeks. Nature play is simple, and yet vital to the development of healthy people, a healthy society and a healthy planet.

Our first 8-week session is drawing to a close and we are taking applications for our 4-week November session. SIgn-up as soon as possible.
